I approach the concerns listed below by using an integrative and eclectic framework, finding the modality and therapy plan that best suits your needs, expectations and individual context. This will be done collaboratively, with us working together to begin your healing journey. I firmly believe that, when given a safe, collaborative and client focused space, an individual can find it within themself to accept, challenge or change aspects of their own life.

In a world that perpetuates the idea of ‘the grind’, mindfulness-based practices can provide a sense of relief from the constant noise. Mindfulness-based practices help clients to obtain greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations and to view them without passing any form of judgement on what they notice. Focus on the here and now teaches clients how to remain in the present moment and to truly engage meaningfully with their surroundings and their lives, by using all their senses. This practice can be beneficial for various mental health conditions and challenges as clients learn how to respond mindfully and flexibly rather than automatically.
DBT is an evidence-based intervention for people struggling with emotional regulation. DBT is built on the four pillars of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotional regulation. “Dialectical” means combining two seemingly opposing ideas and with DBT, the focus is on helping people both accept their reality, as well as equipping them with the skills to make effective changes in their behaviours. DBT ultimately seeks to help clients build a meaningful life that is worth living.
BWRT® is a short-term therapy technique designed to quickly and permanently alter and re-wire the way the brain reacts to stressors. The goal is to utilise BWRT® to reduce or even end the automatic reaction that the stressor would typically cause, such as a phobia, anxiety or even a panic attack. BWRT® works with the subconscious to reprogram these automatic reactions by modifying the wired script that would enforce these reactions. By doing so, BWRT® then replaces the automatic reaction with more adaptive and positive reactions, bringing with it a sense of release and relief for the client. Using such an approach allows the therapist to work with clients who have experienced distressing events or trauma, which they find incredibly difficult to talk about as it does not require too much detailed discussion about the actual experience.
It is important to note that online therapy is not suited to everyone. For individuals who are in crisis, with self-harm or suicidal risks, or in need of in-patient admission, it is strongly advised that they seek therapeutic intervention with an in-person psychologist. If requested, I will be able to provide a list of recommended psychologists in your area. If at any time during the therapeutic process I feel that online therapy is no longer suitable or clinically adequate, I will refer you to a trusted colleague who can take over your therapeutic process in-person.
Therapy sessions are scheduled for 55 minutes and fees are aligned with current medical aid rates. Please note that this practice operates as a cash practice, requiring payment on the day of your session and I do not claim on your behalf from your medical aid. I will issue you with an invoice which you can then submit to your medical aid for reimbursement.
