My name is Stephanie de Raay and I consider myself to be an empathetic and warm counselling psychologist. I am person-centred and fuelled by the belief that human beings have a deep desire to be seen and to be heard by another.

My academic journey started when I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology. From there I went on to complete my honours degree and then finally completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of Pretoria. This was followed by my internship at the therapy and assessment centre based at Epworth Children’s Village. My training and experience have equipped me to approach each client and therapeutic process from a systemic and integrative perspective, paying special attention to the unique aspects that make up each client’s life. I therefore believe that there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to therapy and that building a tailored treatment plan that is unique to you is more beneficial to meeting your needs.

I have been in private practice since 2023, where I have had the privilege to encounter individuals from diverse backgrounds, which has provided me with exposure to a variety of life stories and client struggles. I have since developed a special interest in helping clients to deal with trauma, loss and major life adjustments. This has led me to further undertake professional development in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and BrainWorking® Recursive Therapy (BWRT®) as I believe that individuals can directly influence their own nervous systems and the neural pathways in their brains.

I believe that by utilising emotional regulation techniques and brain-based therapies clients can process and manage negative experiences and create healthier thought processes which can result in genuine and effective behavioural changes, all of which can lead to a meaningful life that is worth living.

I believe that by providing an accepting therapeutic space and focusing on building a strong therapeutic relationship, the therapy process can become one where genuine change can take place.
